Hold A Nightingale Tea

A unique way to raise money for the Nurse Museum is to hold a tea in honor of Florence Nightingale. The purpose of a Flo's Tea Party is to honor Florence Nightingale's landing at Scurtari on October 21, 1854 where she went to provide nursing care for the solider's in the Crimean War. A Flo's Tea Party can be held at any time but it is particularly meaningful during October 21-November 21 of any year. A tea can be held anywhere; work, home, schools-anywhere people want to come together to celebrate the wonderful profession of nursing and nurses.

Up front Considerations

Before you give a tea here are some things to consider.

  • Are you willing to have nurses from your area that would like to attend a tea come to your party?
  • If GSNF is approached and would like to visit a Nightingale Tea would you be willing to have members of the media at your party?
  • Would you like a representative from GSNF in attendance at your party, if they are available?
  • Would you like the GSNF to announce your party in the quarterly newsletter, on our web site, on a list-serve?
  • Are you willing to submit pictures and an article about the party for publication in the newsletter?

I Want To Have A Tea

You have decided to have a Flo's Tea Party. Now what do you do? Here are some simple steps.

  • Pick a date between October 21-November 21 and complete a request to have a Flo Tea Party form for GSNF.
  • Decide on the location.
  • Create your invitation list.
  • Send out your invitations. GSNF provides two types of invitations.
    • An invitation that can be folded and mailed-all you need to do is add your specific information. This is available in a Publisher file and/or a pdf file so that you can add your information.
    • A pre-written invitation letter explaining the Tea Party with an area for people to RSVP is ready to use.
    • Design your own invitations.
  • Send the invitations.
  • Decide the kind of tea you want to serve along with cookies/sandwiches.
  • Plan how the tea will proceed. Here are some suggestions.
    • Share a short biography of Florence Nightingale at the tea party. Print Nightingale Bio.
    • Follow-up the reading of the bio with some questions and answers. This is really fun and can stimulate discussion. We have created some questions about Florence so print the questions and distribute them to the tea party attendees. You will have the answers.
    • Consider other game ideas and offer prizes. Print fun facts and game information.
    • Have Fun!
